Growing Season

February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences, virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. The relatively mild summer followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat created near-ideal conditions for winemakers to allow their fruit to accumulate flavor complexity with gradual increases in sugar levels.

Vinification

The lots for Meyer Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon are kept separate throughout winemaking to retain individual block and varietal characters. Small capacity fermentation tanks, carefully timed pump-overs and punch-downs, a mix of native and cultured yeasts, the finest French cooperage and extended aging result in a wine noted for its deep flavor and velvety tannins.

Tasting Notes

In the glass the wine displays a nearly opaque purple-ruby hue. On the nose, there are aromas of black currant, blackberry cassis anise, sweet and sour plum with a hint of black and red licorice. The palate opens with ripe plum, graham and brown sugar with blackberries and white pepper notes. The wine is balanced with soft tannins and a med long finish. Age for 7-12 years.
