“Opaque garnet in color, the 2012 Hestan Cabernet is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from blocks 1, 9 and 15 on the estate. It is an intense wine that will benefit from 1-2 hours of decanting before serving, as it opens slowly, revealing a mélange of dark berry, mocha and spice aromatics. On the palate, layers of plum, cocoa, cranberry, clove and coffee meld with mouth-coating, well-integrated tannins that persist through a long finish”. Situated on the eastern slopes of the Vaca Mountain range in Napa Valley, Hestan Vineyards is a 60-acre tapestry of small, individually farmed blocks, planted to the five principle red Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. The vineyard’s unique mix of soils, slopes, exposures, rootstocks, clones and varietals contribute to the depth and complexity of the vineyard’s flagship Hestan Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon.
Hestan Cabernet Sauvignon is the product of a “no holds barred” approach by winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown that starts in the vineyard, where the best blocks, rows and even vines are reserved for each blend. In the cellar, small lots are kept separate, vinified individually and reassessed at each step in the winemaking process. After resting in the finest French cooperage, the wines go through one last culling process with only the best barrels reserved for the final blend.
